Brad sailing Dark Star, his Tanzer 26, on a cruise in the Les Cheneaux Islands of Lake Huron.

Co-founder & Consultant

Brad started sailing when he was three weeks old, when his parents Deb and Joe first took him out on Dark Star, their Tanzer 26. He grew up sailing with his parents, cruising Lake Huron and the North Channel, racing in Saginaw Bay, and eventually teaching sailing with the Saginaw Bay Community Sailing Association. Brad received Dark Star as a high school graduation present (after Stardust was ready to go), and has been sailing her ever since.

In college, Brad sailed with the Michigan State University Sailing Team across the Midwest. Brad now lives in Wisconsin, but he still sails Dark Star on the Great Lakes and smaller lakes in Wisconsin with his wife Leah. In the winter, Dark Star lives in Deb and Joe’s heated shop–which is great for those off-season maintenance projects!

Brad has worked as a US Sailing certified instructor, a boat-buyer’s representative, and a rigger with Bay Boat Works. Since 2012, Brad has represented a local sail loft, helping sailors in Northern Wisconsin find the best sails for their boats and keep them in top shape. He’s sailed seven Port Huron to Mackinac Races, and one Chicago to Mackinac, and has skippered his own boat and crewed for many others racing throughout the Great Lakes. Brad and Leah are often the youngest sailors in the harbor, and they look forward to helping a new generation of sailors get out on the water.
